We wanted to treat this set as a visual response to Krush's soundscapes and the way he works a set, with lots of layers and depth, his scratches feel almost like real instruments soloing but in a really subtle and well thought way. The first idea we had was about lights&shadows and we also used some real paintings to get the color palettes. We printed landscapes on cardboard and then built a primitive cardboard/wood box to use those landscapes as visual "scratch" material.
The idea to light the set with candles came because
we had a blackout at the studio and when someone
lighted a cigarette the whole set glowed and we
knew it was an interesting path to experiment.
We complemented the visual performance with loops
done live and also some pre-animated elements.
